like whenever i put gel or spray onto my hair, its gets very dry and has those white stuff on it. can some 1 help me?

You should only get white bits if you brush the hair after the product has dried. It could be old product thou maybe if it hasnt been washed or not washed out properly.

You could try getting some hair straightening irons. GHD make special small ones designed for short hair and a lot of guys use them and the normal irons.

But if you must, I suppose you should use a conditioner to enrich you hair, make them thicker and heavier, then they will naturally be straight.

Besides gel there is such thing as wax, and you really do not need to put so much so as to get the white stuff.

Also - check out other gels, may be their quality will be better.

Are you going through your hair after the product dries in your a hair with your comb or your hands? This will cause flakes from the gel or spray. Try using a more professional type of hair product that claims no flakes or just dont comb your hair unless you have recently applied gel to it. Shampoo is the only way to get rid of the flakes. Your gel could be drying out your hair too so a more professional brand could also help this or try something with little or no alcohol in it. As for keeping your hair straight,do you mean straight or do you mean flat and not sticking up? Is your hair long or short? My suggestions is to go with the natural texture of your hair and dont try to change it. It will be more work in the long run to keep up with it and you will always be fighting the battle of taming your hair. All hair styles are cool right now, so anything goes......unless you purposely decide to sport a mullet, or a rat tail- shave your head! LOL!

my hair is about shoulder-length, thin, and very "poofy".

I use "straightening" shampoo (made by Avon)

blow dry it, and straighten it for about 10 minutes.

it seems to work fine, but I do have a large number of split ends.
