What kind of fly spray should i use?

I live in MN and it is hot over here. i give my horses cool baths every week, but the flies bother the heck out of them (They are biting flies) when i get them wet. what can i do or what can i use to keep them flies from bothering them. they don't want to stand still when i wet them down. does fly spray loose effectiveness when it is sprayed on wet hair? i have been spraying my horses down, when they are still wet, but i have the majority of the water off, with the fly spray. I currently use farnam endure and have a bottle of absorbine ultrashield ex which i will use when the endure runs out.

My barn uses the fly spray from Bronco. It is part of the Absorbine line. It works great. Also, you could get horse-friendly fly traps and place them around the barn and put plenty around the area where you wash your horses. Good luck and hope this helps!

I volunteer at a barn in powdersprings ga. They actually make their own spray for their horses, which makes it safe for the horses, im not exactly sure what they put in the spray, but I'm sure you can find some kind of recipie for an organtic spray online. That is pretty much all i can tell you, but there is a website i will recomend: http://www.healthypets.com/endure.html

i belive it is called marigold fly spray. it works wonders. i have used it in both va/massachustes and it does great. the only downside with it is that some people who aare allergic to marigolds have allergic reactions so u might want to be careful.

i love it cuz it smells good and works.

my quarter horses had troube with flys getting in their earss and i would put some valsline on it witch was hard for flys/gnats to land on so they would SOMETIMESE stay off

i use a mixture of equal parts pine sol and water. it doesn't harm the horse, smells good and is relatively inexpensive

I have had most success with FlyPel, and EquiSpot.

If you don't want to use the spray, they also sell a type of fly repellent that comes in a little tube and you apply down the middle of the back, it's called Equii Spot. They also sell pellets you give them in their feed which helps control flies, so they are not swarming around the areas your horses go. Or you could try a fly sheet, face mask and fly leg wraps. Go to Statelinetack.com and click on the pest control tab. You'll find these things there.

I know this sounds weird, but at a riding academy I went to for a week during the summer they sprayed WD-40 on the horses. I also would recomend using full body covers on the horses with fly masks. Hope this helps!

If you decide to keep using sprays, make sure that it is water-based. We used an oil-based spray once on our gelding and he lost some of his coat. Now he won't let us spray him at all!

You could also try putting a capful of apple cider vinegar in their grain. They may not like it, and it might make them smell a little, but it helps. Be sure to mix it up well.

Hi, I also live in mn and I have found some stuff called pyranna I think thats how its spelled and its the best stuff I have ever used. It comes full strength and in a big bright yellow container. u should be able to get it at stateline tack.

I personally am a huge fan of Zonk It! . It's cheaper than the more namebrand sprays, and it's worked great for me so far. Even after being rinsed off, the flies don't seem to come back.

Hope you find what you're looking for!
